From the recording Under the Cover of Snow
Very rarely I write and record a song in an hour or less, and, in an attempt at not editing myself, decide that it’s finished. But then I’m anguishing over its imperfections, especially my performance, and would rather put it to one side to “record properly” at a later date - a date that usually never arrives.
“Under the Cover of Snow” doesn’t fit with either of the two album projects I’m working on, and I’m unlikely to re-visit the song in the future. So I’m releasing it as is. Recorded live in my studio, it’s perhaps an odd little song, but I stopped worrying about being out of step with the rest of the world a long time ago. I’m not doing a big mail-out or announcement, just letting it float out into the ether; it may crystallise, or just melt away…
Lyrics
Under the Cover of Snow
Your wild thoughts
Shatter
Splinter and glitter like tiny mirrors
on the floor
I see me
in pieces
A thousand times brighter
now Venus has faded away
And oh we should stay here
And oh, how we’ll grow
Under the cover of lace and soil
Until the seasons of snow
Until the seasons of snow
But dream on
Wake up!
‘tis nought but a thundering echo of
pleasures
long gone
I see you
In places
a thousand times visited
with barely a moment to rest
And oh we could stay here
And oh we could grow
Under the cover of lace and soil
Until the seasons of snow
And oh can’t we stay here?
And oh can’t we grow?
Under the cover of lace and soil
Under the cover of snow
Under the cover of snow
